Roomba

Last night, we ended up going to Kohl’s and little did I know the joy I would get from shopping there. Their selection isn’t amazing per se but the fact that I had a 30% off coupon from my mom made all the difference. After an hour of roaming the store (I could have spent a week there!), I spotted a Roomba! (In case household appliances don’t do it for you, google it and I swear you will fall in love. I mean who doesn’t love it when your chores are literally taken care of by a machine.) I was trying to get the boy’s attention but he ran off to the men’s room. After he came back, I completely forgot because I was in a different area and let’s face it, I have an awful memory. As fate would have it, we returned to the spot where I found my little gem and it caught both our eyes. We looked at each other and realized that we MUST get it. It was on sale for $300.00 but with 30% off, it made it $210.00 plus tax. The only worry we had was that the box was falling apart and someone may have used it and returned it. We checked with a sales rep and she informed us that whatever is in stock is out on the floor. Luckily, she saw us browsing later and she told us to ask the cashier for a discount since the box was damaged. We walked out the store with my dream machine (all they need now is to create a machine that will cook for me and I do not mean the microwave!) for half the original price! How I love sales!

Have you ever bought an item that you have been dying to get? What was it and was it as awesome as you imagined?

post script: review to come

After one disappointing try, we returned our dream machine. It turns out that it was our dream is more of a nightmare (OK, maybe not that extreme) Here was our experience:

We juiced the machine overnight per the instructions. When we both got home, we were soooo excited to turn the sucker on, we literally sat on the sofa and watched it as it “vacuumed.” It kept bumping into things like the dining chairs, dining table, coffee table, walls, anything you can name. I realize that this is how the Roomba works but believe me, it was more spastic that helpful. Also, the machine refused to get onto the rug and it didn’t even clean the entire living room and kitchen in over 30 minutes. We finally got fed up and turned the sucker off. Maybe it was our room setup but the Roomba wasn’t the godsend we were expecting. I guess we will have to do it the old fashioned way.

I’m back!

After a mini-hiatus, I have returned. I am still trying to decide what this blog should center around and whether I have should a theme. For now, it’ll just be me trying to detail my life and hopefully keep you entertained.

Lately, I’ve been trying to attempt new recipes and to spice up my home-making skills. So far, I’ve tried my hand at pho (vietnamese soup), beef stew and duck. Everything has been pretty decent, although my favorite by far is the duck. Chinese roasted duck courtesy of my mama’s receipe. In case you are wondering, my mom doesn’t have a recipe per se. It is more like a little of this and a little of that. I think that’s the best way to cook. Not worrying too much about the exact measurements but gettingĀ a feel so what each ingredient does to your taste buds. (I will post my “recipe” later and post pictures – I’ll be making duck again for Christmas)

So speaking of food, the boy is a HUGE food lover (and how isn’t?!). Here is a snidbit of our conversation two nights ago.

Me: Honey, let’s go to Kohl’s. I want to get a casserole dish for making mac-n-cheese, lasagna and other yummy things.
Boy: Ohhh, lasagna. Let’s make that!
Me: But honey, you hate cheese.
Boy: I like pizza.
Me: Ok, I’ll make lasagna… with extra meat!
Boy: How did you know my aphrodisiac?

Does your man love meat as much as mine? And if he does, what makes him absolutely feel like he has died and gone to heaven? Recipes are appreciated… :)
